Amazon’s #1 release on Mother’s Day weekend
I am happy to share that over fifty friends and family of The Honorable Alexis Herman gathered in her home in the Washington, D.C. area on June 8 th to celebrate the publication of my new
book, My Mother’s Daughter: A Heritage of Faith, Service, Wisdom, and Love.
The book signing event included delicious food, drink, and wonderful fellowship.
The afternoon was punctuated with excitement surrounding the wonderful essays in the anthology that captured the inspiring relationships between Black mothers and daughters.
A panel discussion narrated by my sister, Alexis Herman, and composed of several women in book including The Honorable Constance Newman, Janice Mathis, Esq., Dr. Melvia Wallace,
and myself brought laughter, tears, and affirming
Women and men from ages twenty to eighty were inspired by each woman’s thought process and back story
related to their essays. The discussion concluded with my reading of several excerpts from the book and more book signing. It was a wonderful event!
I am happy to share with you that more than thirty-five women gathered at the YWCA of Greater Atlanta on June 18, 2024, for my book signing. The event was hosted by Danita Knight, President and CEO of the “Y” who welcomed guests to the venue and book signing. The event included a panel discussion moderated by Kipling Primus, a local radio personality. Panelist included Judge Glenda Hatchett, Ingri
Guests were enthralled as each panelist shared their thoughts about the book and the emotions they experienced as they tried to capture the special relationship they had with their mother. They also shared additional experiences that amplified the impact their mothers had on their development.
Judge Hatchett recalled that as a child she declared “I will never be like my
mother.” She now sees that her sassiness and concern for the wellbeing of children is directly linked to her mother’s personality and values. Danita Knight shared that her mother’s last words to her family were to be kind to one another and others. She now leads with kindness but cautions that her kindness should not be m
The panel discussion was concluded with select readings from the anthology by Adrianna Mitchell who made her Broadway debut in 2023 in the Pulitzer Prize-winning, Tony-nominated play, “Fat Ham.” She has appeared in select television series such as Bull, The Blacklist, Lincoln Rhyme, and most recently, Grey’s Anatomy, directed by Phylicia Rashad. Adrianna is a Phi Beta Kapp graduate of Spelman College and received her MFA in acting from American Conservatory Theater. She is my beautiful granddaughter!
Guests included mothers who were honored in the book, my daughters: Cheryl Mines and DeAnna Lewis, as well as other women who contributed to the anthology: Beatrice Soublet, Joyce Walden, and Dr. Jeanine Oliga.
It was Dr. Oliga’s mother who inspired the book with her comment to me in 2007: “I don’t know your mother, but I see her in everything you do.”
I was happy to have my husband, daughters, granddaughter, and great-grandson share this
event with me. Guests were treated to light refreshments by the event sponsor, Ann Stallard, my wonderful friend of more than fifty years. Book sales were vigorous!
